This painting was inspired by a visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. It was wonderful. I'd go again tomorrow. It is not a copy of Van Gogh's Seascape near Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer Arles June 1888, but rather a joyful small oil that benefitted from his genius. I painted this little tribute to Van Gogh in a short period of time because as the artist painting with me that day said, "I was feeling moved." It's difficult to explain why such things happen with art. One day painting a scene in your head or in front of you can be a chore, the next day it simply flows onto the paper or canvas. This painting was the latter. I am working on a second one with different blues and greens and will post it soon in order to make a comparison -- not in terms of better or worse, but simply with regard to mood. So, please stop by again and we'll see a second iteration of channeling Van Gogh.
